UX1XN - further price drop!

Zuber, our top reader, has bitten the bullet and bought a UX1XN from Laptops Direct. He got the great price of £699 including VAT! Mine was delivered 7 days ago from the same place and I paid £821 (£699 plus VAT)!!

Sony Style has also reduced the price by £100 to £899 inc VAT.

I am enjoying using mine more and more each day and I can highly recommend them to you.

Hi,

I've been eyeing these UX's for some time now.

Have you tried painting on one of these yet (using an app like Sketchbook or Photoshop)?

If anyone has any experience with this I'd definitely appreciate any imsight/impressions that people may have.

Hi Junki,

I installed Photoshop CS3 for you last night. Drawing in Photoshop works like a charm. You are limited by the size of the screen of course but the touch screen is very accurate and behaves very well.

Is there anything in particular that you'd like me to try in Photoshop?

Thanks

Simon

UX arrived this morning !

First impression. Smaller than I expected. It looks much bigger in the youtube videos. All the Vista Aero stuff works fine.

It actually fits even in my Jeans Pocket (not exactly low key) but trouser pocket might be ok except when you need to look a bit smart...

The thing with Jeans is that they have nasty studs around the pocket, so actually put it in/out feels a bit risky.

Another observation, tons of stuff filling up diskspace. I'm trying to figure out what is included free and worth keeping and what is junk/trialware.

Uninstalled Norton and Office. Removed something that looked like it would install Works.

Now trying to decide on the Adobe directory. It has a large section that sets up Adobe.

Trying to figure out if it is Full version or just reader. If full version, then is it trialware ?

Anyone got a good list of keeps and deletes/uninstalls ?

I reckon I'll have a good play, screw it up and then do a full restore and do things properly.

Also, what's the thin black rounded strip along the top. It feels a bit vulnrable. Not something that could take too many knocks. Just the feel I get, might be fine.

Thanks,

Zuber

Thank you Simon!

I hadn't expected you to go out of your way like that.

How well does the little UX handle things like blending/smudging and air brushing. How much lag is there between stylus movements and what appears on screen?

Thanks again.

Hi Zuber,

I'm not sure what the Black bar is. Is it a cover for the WiFi aerial perhaps?

I'm afraid that I don't have any list of what to uninstall, its been trial and error for me. I've had several Sony VAIOs now (5+ I guess) and they always come like this.

I think I've got rid of most of it from mine, except the load of wallpapers that appear in the add/ remove programs screen. I'll get rid of them ASAP.

As well as Works, Office, Norton, etc. I took off SonicStage, some other Sony program and WinDVD. I've kept VAIO update which seems to work quite nicely for specific drivers and things.

I have no idea what "My Club VAIO" is other than that it wants to update itself and seems to want to take several hours. I have started it a couple of times and cancelled before it got to 10% because I had to reboot or something.

Hi Junki,

I haven't tried the things that you mentioned just yet but I can tell you that there doesn't appear to be any lag on inking straight into Photoshop with the brush tool.

I will try and put together a short video demo this evening if I can find the time.

Thanks

Simon
